For Parents or Guardians

Message from Brad Goan, Dean of Admissions

Brad GoanAs the father of three children, I am repeatedly humbled by the magnitude of my parental responsibilities, and I admittedly get a little anxious when I think about going through the college search process as a dad.

For most students, the college choice is the biggest decision they have made up to this point in their lives. As a parent, not only are you the biggest influencer in that decision, but you have to navigate multiple roles — task master, counselor, personal assistant, and accountant, just to name a few. We obviously want your son or daughter to consider Transylvania. We think this is an outstanding place with incredible opportunities. But most important to us — as it is to you — is that your son or daughter find a community that will build upon the foundation you have laid, that will provide a wonderful four-year collegiate experience, and that will propel him or her to success and happiness in life and work for a lifetime.

I hope you find the following information useful, as it is particularly important to you as a parent. Feel free to contact me or your admissions counselor at any time. We look forward to working with you.

New Student Orientation

During orientation at Transylvania, new students meet their classmates, student leaders, faculty, and staff. This is a time to ask questions, get involved, and — most importantly — have fun as they prepare for the coming school year. Find out more about orientation here.

Student Involvement

Joining student organizations help students make friends, develop leadership skills, practice team-building — and have fun, too. The more involved they are in the college community, the more they'll benefit from their experiences. See a sampling of involvement opportunities here.

Area Hotels, Restaurants, and Attractions

As Kentucky's second largest city, Lexington is a regional center for entertainment, sports, museums, the arts, and many other attractions. See what's available near campus, across town, or in the area. Some hotels offer special rates to Transylvania families. View the list here.
